Cuba and Egypt reaffirm willingness to develop cooperation in the field of health and drug production

Cairo, August 4, 2025. Cuban Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Pellicer Moraga, was received this afternoon, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Population, by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the depth and strength of the historical relations between Egypt and Cuba, noting that the cultural and human ties between the two countries constitute a solid basis for developing cooperation in various fields, especially in the health sector. He expressed his desire to strengthen strategic alliances that benefit the interests of both friendly peoples.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting addressed several issues of common interest, including cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the “Egypt 2030” vision. They also discussed mechanisms to support partnership in drug manufacturing, experience sharing and two-way technology transfer.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the two sides discussed the possibility of cooperating in the transfer of technology for the manufacture of medicines for the treatment of diseases such as diabetic foot, within the framework of the State's interest in promoting medical innovation and supporting the local manufacture of biological medicines, which contributes to improving the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

He went on to say that the meeting addressed the ongoing cooperation projects between Cuba and the holding company of biological products and vaccines “Vacsera”, which include the transfer of technology for the manufacture of biological vaccines, and the pentavalent vaccine, in addition to the exchange of experiences in the field of biotechnology.

For his part, Ambassador Alexander Pellicer expressed Cuba's pride in the excellent relations with Egypt and confirmed his country's interest in expanding the areas of bilateral cooperation, especially in the sectors of health, scientific research and the biopharmaceutical industry. He also praised Egypt's efforts to develop the health sector and strengthen international cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Sherif El-Feel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VACSERA Company, Dr. Olfat Ghorab, President of the Arab Company for Pharmaceutical Industries (ACDIMA), Dr. Ahmed Lila, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Medical Union Pharmaceuticals (MUP), and Dr. Suzan Zanati, Director of the General Administration of International Relations at the Ministry of Health.
