Havana, April 24, 2025 (ACN). As part of the V International Convention Cuba Salud 2025 and to exchange knowledge and criteria on oncology, the Jamaican delegation participating in the event today visited the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology, in this capital.
During the meeting, the Cuban doctors explained to the Jamaican representatives the behaviour of cancer in the country and how the integral programme for the control of this pathology and its diversity is being developed.
Yuliet Martínez Carrasco, deputy director of Medical Assistance at the Institute, pointed out to the visitors that Cuba has a national network comprising four specialised hospitals, five oncology units, 29 services to treat this disease in provincial hospitals and nine radiotherapy departments.
She pointed out that the institution where the exchange took place is the main centre for the introduction and evaluation of new technologies in this speciality, through clinical, basic, translational and epidemiological research.
Martínez Carrasco stressed Cuba's intention to continue providing health to the peoples of the world as one of the principles of the Cuban Revolution taught by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Errol Greene, permanent secretary of the Jamaican Ministry of Health, told the Cuban News Agency exclusively that this space for fraternisation and knowledge is important for his nation, since in that country there is a shortage of medical personnel and they depend on Cuban aid.
Greene, who headed the Sister Nation's delegation, described the meeting as an opportunity to cooperate, establish new relations and strengthen medical care in that territory through Cuban programmes.
Melody Ennis, director of Jamaica's National Electronic Immunisation Registry, explained to ACN that participating in Cuba Salud has boosted exchanges with professionals from other parts of the world.
She added that it has also provided evidence of how the island's health system works in order to compile strategies for the benefit of the sector's work in that state.
According to both parties, around 400 professionals provide services in different regions of Jamaica, which is an example of the brotherhood between these peoples.
The V International Convention Cuba Salud 2025, which brings together delegates from different parts of the world and has the People's Republic of China as Guest of Honour, promotes the growth of an indispensable field for human development.
