KINGSTON, JAMAICA, May 4, 2018. The Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Pearnel Charles Jr., welcomed the Cuba Ambassador, Inés Fors Fernández, during a courtesy visit.
During the cordial meeting, held at the Miniistry´s venue, both parts reiterated the compromise to continue strengthening the bilateral relations.
The recently designated Minister of State refered to the large potential of one and other country to continue deepening ties and increase the areas for cooperation. On the latter, Charles expressed the appreciation for the presence of more than 300 Cuban collaborators that work in the areas of Health and Education and for the large number of Jamaicans that have benefited from the scholarships programs of the Government of Cuba.
Likewise, the Cuban Ambassador mentioned how close Cuba and Jamaica are not only because of their geographical position but for sharing the same realities and challenges.
The Cuban diplomat also thanked for the continued support of the Jamaican Government and people in the fight against the United States blockade.
Melissa Pryce, Cuba Desk officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting as well.
