Kingston, Jamaica, 18 March 2019. Cubans and Jamaicans gathered next to the bust of Antonio Maceo, in the National Heroes Park of Jamaica, to honor the Bronze Titan on the 141st anniversary of the heroic Protest of Baraguá.
From early in the morning, the staff of the Embassy of Cuba, members of the Cuban education and health brigades rendering services in this sister Caribbean nation, members of the Antonio Maceo Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica and other guests, attended the meeting. Cuban residents, directors of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, and diplomats from the Embassy of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela also joined this commemoration ceremony.
Poems and a brief historical overview of such a significant event enlivened the simple but touching ceremony. As a finishing touch, a floral offering was made to the bust of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo, to pay homage to the patriot who preferred to fight until the last consequences before accepting a peace without independence for his country.
March 15th has been recorded in the history of Cuba as a supreme sample of the Cuban people’s will to defend the values in which they believe at all costs.
