Cuba and Jamaica strengthen cooperation in the health sector

With 40 Cuban healthcare professionals newly arriving in Jamaica, the bonds of medical cooperation between the two Caribbean nations continue to grow stronger.

Kingston, Jamaica, 17 December 2020. With 40 Cuban healthcare professionals newly arriving in Jamaica, the bonds of medical cooperation between the two Caribbean nations continue to grow stronger.

The arrival of doctors and nurses from the Greatest Island in the Antilles reconfirms Cuba's vocation for solidarity in a scenario marked by a complex international epidemiological situation, and validates Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel's statement at the opening session of the recently held Seventh CARICOM-Cuba Summit, when he said:

"In the midst of the difficult economic situation we are going through, the limitations imposed by the new reality, I reiterate Cuba's willingness to cooperate modestly with our Caribbean brothers in the field of public health, especially in the fight against COVID-19."

For several decades, Cuban healthcare professionals have rendered their services in Jamaican public health institutions.

With the arrival of the new group, the Cuban Medical Mission´s membership in Jamaica increases to 492 professionals.
