Cuba and Kenya to finalize environmental cooperation

Cuban Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Inés Fors Fernández, held a follow-up meeting with Dr. Festus K. Ngeno, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Environment and Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Republic of Kenya. The meeting marks an important step forward in strengthening environmental cooperation between Kenya and the Republic of Cuba.

This engagement followed earlier discussions with the Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Prof. Rudy Montero Mata, on the margins of the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA-7), where a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in environmental protection was reviewed and agreed to a clear roadmap toward its signing.

During the meeting it was refined priority areas of collaboration to align with respective national environmental priorities in both countries and ensure that the agreement is practical, implementable, and ready for execution upon signing.

The draft MOU outlines cooperation in key areas, including environmental policy dialogue, pollution prevention, biodiversity conservation, development of environmental technologies, environmental impact assessments, education and scientific exchanges, strengthening environmental information systems, and the management of protected areas.
