Vientiane, November 2023. The Ambassador of Cuba, Enna Viant, received Mr. Somphone Maneekham, vice president of the Laos Sports Institute.
During the meeting, an exchange of interest took place on the development of sport in both countries and in particular the strengths in medium and long-term work with young talents.
They agreed on the high sporting level of the countries that attend sporting events at all levels and the need to apply advances in science in the preparation of athletes.
The Cuban diplomat stressed the imperative need to implement gradual actions in the short and medium term, facing the different cycles of competences, for which the experience accumulated in these events is essential. Likewise, in the case of Cuba, he pointed out the massive practice of sports from an early age and in particular highlighted the island's recent performance in the recent Pan American Games where it obtained 30 gold medals out of a forecast of 21, with a respectable place among the five best teams from the recent Pan American games held in Chile.
For his part, Counselor of the Embassy of Cuba, Leonel Gonzalez chaired a technical-methodological meeting aimed to contribute to the enrichment of the collaboration between both countries, which also included the participation of Mr. Maneekham and Mr. Bounma Thammavong, Director of the Elite Sports Division of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR.
