Vientiane, February 14, 2026. The president of the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association, Chaleun Yiapaoheu, lamented the death of Dr. Julio López, head of the first Cuban medical brigade that served in this Southeast Asian nation in 1973.

In a message of condolence addressed to the head of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, Yiapaoheu described the Cuban doctor as a “very dear friend and comrade of our people.”

The Ambassador of Cuba  Enna Viant,  paid a courtesy call to Com. Mr Sakhone Phommalath, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Training Board of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, received a courtesy call from Ms. Enna Viant Valdes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Lao PDR.

The meeting, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Laos and Cuba, on the media sector.

Cuban President denies terrorism accusations against Cuba

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez held a press conference and asserted that Cuba is neither a terrorist country nor a threat to the security of the United States. He argued that the island has never proposed or carried out any aggressive action that would endanger the territorial integrity, security, or stability of the United States government, and that it does not harbor terrorists.
