Cuba and the Marshall Islands advocate the strengthening of bilateral relations

Suva, September 10. The Cuban Ambassador to Fiji, Carlos Manuel Rojas Lago held a fruitful working meeting with his counterpart from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, H.E. Albon Tregar Ishoda. In a cordial atmosphere, both discussed the progress of bilateral relations and on issues of regional and international interest.

The Marshallese Ambassador expressed his country's recognition of Cuba's solidarity and willingness to cooperate with the Pacific Islands, values ​​that have remained unchanged even amid the complex context generated by the coronavirus pandemic. He also highlighted the progress made in the bilateral political dialogue since both nations established diplomatic relations on September 27, 2015, an event of which will soon be commemorated the fifth anniversary.

On his side, the highest rank diplomatic representative of the Caribbean island here reiterated his deep appreciation for the support of the Marshall Islands to the Cuban Resolution condemning the economic blockade imposed by the United States. Likewise, the Ambassador ratified the Cuban Government´s will to expand bilateral exchange and promote joint cooperation actions on issues of common interest.

Before concluding the meeting, both officials exchanged about the experiences of their respective countries in the confrontation with COVID19, as well as the growing challenges that Small Island States face as a consequence of climate change.
