Cuba and Saint Lucia initiate cooperation in the education sector.

In the framework of the cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Education of Cuba and Santa Lucia, signed last February, three Cubans specialists arrived in Castries, who will contribute with their support and advice on aspects related to the development of this important area. Among the Cuban specialists, we highlight the presence of the methodology of mathematics Susana Acosta, who has already advanced an important stage of work with the educational authorities of Saint Lucia and Dr. Jorge Tamayo, with whose collaboration and advice will start the actions for the implementation of the cuban literacy program, "Yes I can". The “Yes, I Can” program is a teaching method for adult literacy which was developed by Cuban educator Dr. Leonela Relys Diaz and first trialled in Haiti and Nicaragua in 2000. To date, this method has been used in 29 nations allowing over 6 million people to develop basic literacy. The program was originally developed in Spanish. It has now been translated into many languages. In this way, bilateral cooperation and the basis of friendship and solidarity between both countries are strengthened.
