Wellington, October 23rd, 2017. - In an emotional event hosted by the Embassy of Cuba in this city, diplomats from both countries commemorated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, restated the importance that Cuba attaches to its links with the Pacific region, sharing the challenges faced by the Small Island Development States. He also congratulated his counterpart for the successful hosting of the 48th Pacific Island Forum in Samoa early September 2017.
The High Commissioner of Samoa and also Dean of the Diplomactic Corps, HE Leasi Papalii Scanlan, expressed his gratitude for the idea in coordinating this event and acknowledged Cuba´s increasing links with Pacific Small Islands Development States.
Cuba and Samoa established diplomatic relations on October 11th, 2007, in a ceremony held in the side-lines of the 62nd United Nations General Assembly. (Embacuba NZ)
