Cuba and St. Mary, Jamaica call to strengthen bilateral ties

ST. MARY, JAMAICA,  June 9th, 2017.-  Senior officials of St. Mary Parish appealled to strengthen the bilateral ties with Cuba and to increase the commercial, academic exchanges. 

During a two-day visit carried out to St. Mary, a representation from the Embassy of Cuba, led by Dr. Jorge Sanches Fuentes, in charge of cultural, academic and commercial affairs, and members of the Cuban entrepeneurial group GESIME, held fruitful exchanges with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Industry of this region. 

Port Maria´s Mayor, Richard Creary, availed the visit of Cuban officials to the venue of the Chamber of Commerce, to extend the appreciation of the people of St. Mary , and Jamaica in general, for the permanent solidarity and cooperation Cuba has offered in areas like health and education. 

The visit to the middle level school Brimmer Vale served to reiterated thi sentiment of gratitude to the people of Cuba and, in special, Fidel Castro. The school´s Principal informed on the existence of three buildings at the school that were donated by  Cuba and built by Cuban collaborators during 1976. 

Students at Brimmer Vale offered a small but heartfelt cultural presentation that included Nicolás Guillen´s poem "Sensemayá" and the national anthem of Cuba sung perfectly. 

During the evening, a representation of the people of St. Mary, led by the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Frederick Young, gathered at the Hotel Casa María  to celebrate and exchange meeting that was productive and left the door open for future meetings.

Among the attendees were members of the Parliament of Jamaica, officials from the local government and Jamaicans graduated in Cuba. 

As previously expressed, Dr. Sanchez Fuentes conveyed the appreciation of the delegation for the warm welcome and reiterated the willingness of the Embassy and Government of Cuba to continue strengthening the excellent bilateral ties.
