BANGKOK, March 29, 2018. - Organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Thailand, a Special Workshop on Scientific Policy and Prospective Collaboration between Thailand and various geographical regions took place in Bangkok. From Latin America and the Caribbean, the event was attended by representatives from Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and Cuba.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Héctor Conde Almeida, highlighted the growing presence of Latin America and the Caribbean in Thailand, the good path of bilateral relations with Cuba and the historical significance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries to be commemorated on May 15th, 2018.
The Cuban diplomat addressed the ongoing actions and the development potential of bilateral scientific cooperation in various fields of activity, especially, the on-going joint efforts in the medical-pharmaceutical production for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases, as a contribution to the Development Strategy 4.0 in Thailand. The forthcoming participation of a high-level delegation from Thailand in the International Convention "CUBA-SALUD 2018", to be held in Havana from 23 to 27 April, was valued as a good opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In the exchange, the progress of the process of updating the Cuban economic and social development model was presented and the negative impacts of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba for almost six decades were highlighted.
The event emphasized the importance of promoting South-South cooperation, the inter-regional collaboration within the framework of the Latin America-East Asia Cooperation Forum (FEALAC); as well as at multilateral forums related to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
