Cuba and Turkey sign governmental agreement on agricultural and fishing cooperation.

Ankara, July 7, 2021. The deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, Akif Özkaldı, and the Cuban ambassador accredited in this capital, Luis A. Amorós Núñez, signed today the Cooperation Agreement in the field of agriculture and fisheries between the governments of both countries, at the headquarters of the Turkish institution. The ceremony was attended by executives and officials of the aforementioned Ministry and the Turkish Foreign Ministry, as well as officials of the Cuban Mission. 

  

In their statements, the representatives of both governments agreed that the agreement offers great opportunities to expand joint development and cooperation projects in the agricultural and fishing sectors and offers numerous areas to continue expanding this collaboration. 

The Antillean Ambassador said that the signing of the agreement demonstrates the good state of diplomatic ties between the two countries, which continue to grow, even in the complex global circumstances due to Covid-19.

Amorós emphasized that the agreement ratifies the will of both governments to broaden and deepen economic and commercial ties. He also stressed that the agreement promotes cooperation in the areas of agriculture, plant production, plant health, animal production, animal health, fisheries and the food industry. He explained that the agreement is part of the efforts of both parties to take advantage of the existing potential of the two countries.

For his part, the Turkish Vice Minister said that the signing of the legal instrument should take bilateral agricultural relations to a higher level. He expressed interest in diversifying bilateral relations and increasing mutual contacts for the benefit of both countries. He stated that Cuba has been one of the key partners in Turkey's strategy to expand relations with Latin America. He stressed the aspiration to bring economic ties to the high level of bilateral political relations.

 

After the ceremony, both representatives held a meeting in which they discussed actions to promote the implementation of the agreement. During the day, the Cuban Ambassador held another meeting with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, Fatih Metin, with whom he also discussed aspects of interest in bilateral relations.
