Cuba and Turkey sign governmental agreement on maritime cooperation.

Ankara, November 12, 2020. The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Selim Dursun, and the Cuban ambassador accredited in this capital, Luis A. Amorós Núñez, signed today the Maritime Agreement between governments of both countries, in the headquarters of the said ministry. Top executives and officials from this institution and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and officials of the Cuban Mission participated in the ceremony.

In their statements, the representatives of both governments coincided that the agreement offers great opportunities to expand joint development and cooperation projects in the maritime sector and detailed many areas in which this collaboration could advance.


The Antillean Ambassador said that the signing of the agreement take places as part of the celebration on November 25 for the 68th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and demonstrates the good state of these ties, which continue to grow and advance, even in the complex global circumstances due to Covid-19.

Amorós stressed that the text ratifies the will of both governments to expand economic-commercial ties and take advantage of their mutual potentialities. Likewise, he stressed that it will impact on the increase of bilateral cooperation in maritime transportation, will promote mutual commercial exchange and will help it to continue multiplying, as it has been happening in recent years. He explained that the arranged maritime cooperation spaces are of great interest to Cuba and can be inserted into its renewed and prioritized efforts for development and economic transformation.

For his part, the Turkish Deputy Minister stressed that the signed agreement will be the legal basis for bilateral relations in maritime transport and will allow further development of these relations as well as the political ones. He assured that this treaty will pave the way for Turkish cooperation and investment projects with Cuba and will be of great benefit to both countries.
