The Turkish Health Institutes (TUSEB) and the NIOCUBAFARMA Delegation from Cuba held working meetings in Ankara on September 17 and 18, 2025, where important official meetings were held between the Turkish Health Institutes (TUSEB) and a delegation from BİOCUBAFARMA, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in health, biotechnology, and scientific development.
On Wednesday, September 17, the signing ceremony for cooperation agreements between the Cuban and Turkish parties took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Türkiye. Subsequently, both delegations participated in a brief working meeting, in which the next steps for collaboration in this area were defined, such as the designation of focal points, the design of a roadmap, and the identification of strategic milestones.
On Thursday, September 18, activities continued at the Aziz Sancar Research Center (ASAM). The day included a welcome session, followed by parallel technical meetings between Cuban and Turkish counterparts. There was also a guided tour of the center's facilities, including laboratories and research centers. The meeting concluded with an executive summary and the definition of measures to be taken to advance the implementation of the agreements.
On behalf of Turkey, the TUSEB delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan, President of the Turkish Health Institutes, and comprised directors of the main national institutes, including biotechnology, cancer, and vaccines, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
The Cuban delegation was composed of Prof. Dr. Alejandro Díaz Palacios, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Turkey; Dr. Eulogio Pimentel Vázquez, First Vice President of BioCubaFarma; and representatives from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM), along with officials from the Cuban Embassy.
This meeting represents a significant step in deepening scientific and technical relations between Cuba and Türkiye, with an emphasis on biomedical research, vaccine development, and high-impact health technologies.
