Cuba and Venezuela to celebrate historical dates linked to Independence.

Cuba has joined Venezuela in celebrating its 206th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 55th anniversary of the Playa Girón´s Victory in Cuba, both on April 19th. A special ceremony was held at the Venezuelan Embassy where wreaths were laid by the Ambassadors of these sister nations, José Gómez and Francisco Fernández, accompanied by officers and officials of both diplomatic missions in Barbados.

Ambassador Gómez highlighted the significance of this historical date not only for Venezuela but also for Latin America, the legacy of the hero Simon Bolivar and how the Commandant President Hugo Chávez took the Bolivarian flag and conducted a victorious revolution in this country which has been spreading solidarity through our region, including in particular the Caribbean, with many projects under the umbrella of Petro Carib Program.

In his remarks, Ambassador Fernández made reference to this historical coincidence of two relevant facts in the region´s history as the military defeat of mercenary troops by the cuban people to those contra revolutionary groups, trained and supported by Pentagon and CIA, complemented the commitment of our region to preserve the independence, national sovereignty and self-determination against the imperialist aggressions.
