Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez held official talks on Monday with his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Hoai Trung, reaffirming the historic solidarity and cooperation between the two nations.
Minister Rodríguez emphasized that the visit by his Vietnamese counterpart comes at a particularly complex time for Cuba, marked by the intensification of U.S. sanctions and their impact on the country’s development. He highlighted Vietnam as “a benchmark of its people’s heroic and extraordinary struggle for national independence and the construction of a much more beautiful homeland,” as well as an example of economic and social progress.
The Cuban foreign minister expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s cooperation, noting that although the two countries are geographically distant, they are closely linked by a shared history of struggle against imperialism and the defense of self-determination. He also underscored Vietnam’s role as the largest investor from Asia and Oceania in Cuba, with projects in strategic sectors such as agri-food, basic necessities, construction materials, and renewable energy.
In the agri-food sector, joint initiatives in rice, coffee, and corn production have strengthened bilateral cooperation, with Vietnam becoming Cuba’s main supplier of rice. Rodríguez also expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s donation of photovoltaic solar parks with a capacity of 80 megawatts, to be located in Mayabeque province.
For his part, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung described his visit as “a demonstration of the special relationship between the two parties and the respect for bilateral ties.” He conveyed greetings from the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro.
Trung also briefed his Cuban counterpart on the results of the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and expressed condolences on the recent passing of Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to comprehensive cooperation and their willingness to continue working together in areas of common interest.
