The Executive Order of May 1st and the Blockade Measures Announced Today Further Increase the Harm to the Cuban Population and Reinforce the Threat of Aggression

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects, in the strongest possible terms, the Executive Order issued by the White House on May 1st, 2026, which tightens, to unprecedented and extreme levels, the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. It likewise condemns the decision adopted by the US Treasure Department on May 7, 2026, to include the Cuban entities GAESA and MoaNickel S.A. in the Specially Designated Nationals List, being this the first coercive measure resulting from the order signed on May 1st. We are being witness to a ruthless act of economic aggression which multiplies the extraterritorial effects of the blockade.

Cuba firmly reject the recent unilateral coercive measures adopted by the United States government

We firmly reject the recent unilateral coercive measures adopted by the #UnitedStates government. These actions demonstrate an intention to impose, once again, collective punishment on the Cuban people. It is no coincidence that these measures were announced on May 1, the very day that millions of Cubans take to the streets to denounce the US blockade and the energy siege. While the US government represses its own people in the streets, it seeks to punish ours, who are heroically resisting the US imperialism’s attacks. These measures are extraterritorial in nature and violate the United Nations Charter. The US has no right whatsoever to impose measures against #Cuba or against third countries or entities.

Medicare Fraud Allegations are New Slanders Against Cuba

Recent statements made by some US Government officials speculate, without any evidence whatsoever, about the fact that the Government of Cuba could be involved in frauds targeting the US health care program Medicare in South Florida.  This is a new slander fabricated by anti-Cuban sectors in that country. Cuba has maintained a firm stance in rejection of this and other transnational crimes.  This is something well-known by the Government of the United States, which has exchanged and coordinated with the Cuban Government the implementation of several joint actions on terrorism, legal assistance, commercial security, illicit trafficking in drugs, alien smuggling and migration fraud, cyber-crimes, money laundering and financial crimes. However, as a rule, there has not been a reciprocal behavior on the part of the US authorities.
