During his address at the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, reaffirmed his nation's firm support for Cuba and made a strong call to the international community to end coercive measures against the island.
The Vietnamese leader highlighted the historical bilateral relationship and unwavering solidarity between both peoples, urging the United States government to take concrete and immediate action to reverse its sanctions policy toward the Caribbean nation.
"Vietnam has always stood in solidarity with the State and people of Cuba. We call on the United States to end the embargo, unilateral sanctions, and the energy blockade against Cuba, and to remove Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism," To Lam emphasized during his speech before the plenary of the multilateral body.
Likewise, the Vietnamese leader urged the international community to join forces and provide effective support to the Caribbean island to overcome the severe economic and energy crisis stemming from the prolonged impact of these unilateral restrictions.
