Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on Saturday in New Delhi during the 18th BRICS Summit to strengthen the long-standing special friendship and comprehensive partnership between their nations.
During the meeting, PM Hưng extended best wishes from Vietnamese General Secretary and President Tô Lâm to Cuban leaders Raúl Castro Ruz and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. He emphasized that Vietnam deeply values its historical alliance with Cuba, closely monitors the challenges facing the Caribbean nation, and stands ready to provide maximum support within its capacity.
To translate this relationship into effective, high-impact collaboration, Prime Minister Hưng proposed maintaining regular high-level exchanges across Party and State channels while enhancing the efficiency of existing bilateral mechanisms. He called for joint coordination to resolve operational challenges for Vietnamese businesses operating in Cuba and expressed Vietnam's readiness to create favorable conditions for Cuban pharmaceutical initiatives within the country. Both sides pledged to continue their close coordination and mutual backing across multilateral platforms.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Cuban leadership, Foreign Minister Rodríguez Parrilla commended Vietnam as a benchmark for successful economic reform and national development along the socialist path. He stressed that Party-to-Party relations remain the firm political foundation for bilateral ties and voiced deep appreciation for Vietnam's support in critical sectors such as food security, agriculture, energy, and international diplomacy.
Sharing the current economic and financial difficulties confronting Cuba, Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted Cuba's intent to coordinate closely with Vietnam on key projects involving food production, solar energy, and pharmaceuticals. He advocated for continued joint efforts to eliminate obstacles facing Vietnamese investors in Cuba and requested further exchange of theoretical and practical experiences regarding socio-economic governance.
Both leaders concluded by reaffirming their shared determination to honor the historic legacy of President Hồ Chí Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro by fully executing all high-level bilateral agreements.
