Vietnam lays solid groundwork for era of nation's rise: Cuban Ambassador

Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to streamline its political apparatus and the dynamism of its economy are creating a solid prerequisite for the country to enter the era of the nation's rise, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes has said.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in a recent interview, Ambassador Fuentes shared his perspectives on Vietnam’s major milestones in 2025, highlighting the significance of institutional reform, economic achievements, the upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), and the prospects for Vietnam – Cuba strategic cooperation.

Cuba to award full medical scholarships to Vietnamese students

Cuba will maintain its tradition of educational cooperation with Vietnam by offering 15 full scholarships to Vietnamese students for the 2026–2027 academic year, the Cuban Government has announced.

Speaking at a press conference on December 22, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes said the scholarships comprise eight places in medicine and seven in other fields under the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), including economics, journalism, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. Applicants must be aged between 16 and 25 and have completed upper secondary education or an equivalent level.

Ho Chi Minh City pledges to share expertise, stand with Cuba

A ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vienam and Cuba (December 2, 1960 –2025) was held on December 9 in Ho Chi Minh City by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations and the Consulate General of Cuba in the southern city. Speaking at the event, Consul General of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City Ariadne Feo Labrada recalled that Cuba became the first nation in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam on December 2, 1960. Since then, the two countries have cultivated a strong fraternal bond founded on their common struggle for independence and social justice, nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro.

Vietnamese company invests in cashew cultivation in Cuba

The Hoang Gia Viet Food JSC of Vietnam has signed an economic cooperation contract with Alquizar, an agricultural company of the Artemisa Agroforestry Business Group, to cultivate cashew and short-cycle crops in Cuba. The signing ceremony in Havana on December 6 was witnessed by Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture Telcel Abdel Gonzalez, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long, and other senior officials from the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture.

Under the contract, the Vietnamese company will farm cashew and short-cycle crops such as peanut, black bean, mung bean, and soybean on an area of 2,000 ha in Artemisa province. It will provide materials, agricultural machinery, technical expertise, and technology while Cuba will supply land, labourers, and favourable conditions for the project.

Exhibition spotlights loyal friendship of Vietnam, Cuba

An exhibition opened at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi on December 5, spotlighting the faithful friendship shared by the Vietnamese and Cuban peoples. Addressing the event, Director of the museum Nguyen Thi Tuyet said the exhibition commemorates 65 years of Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relations and highlights the museum's role as a cultural bridge promoting friendship, solidarity and revolutionary traditions. Through stories, photographs and long-preserved keepsakes, the exhibition recalls the profound bond between the two nations, she said.

Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes described the display as a tribute to the historic relationship cherished by generations of leaders and peoples of both countries.
