Riyadh, June 23rd - Ambassador Vladimir Gonzalez was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen by the Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr. Mansour Ali Bagash. In this occasion, they widely exchanged on the last developments in their respective countries and also about the interest of the Cuban and Yemeni authorities in continuing to promote bilateral relations in different spheres, despite the prevailing difficult circumstances.
The Ambassador explained to Dr. Bagash the serious difficulties that the Island faces from the socio-economic point of view as a consequence of the world economic crisis, aggravated by the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America for more than six decades. Blockade, that was also intensified by the measures -still in force- adopted during previous Donald Trump Administration, overlapping with Covid-19 pandemic.
For his part, the Undersecretary explained the serious situation that Yemen continues to experience as a result of a war of more than seven years. He also analyzed the latest events after achieving the extension of the truce between the belligerent parties at the behest of the United Nations. In this regard, he highlighted the efforts made by the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government, aimed at achieving definitive peace, stability and security in the Arab nation.
On the other hand, Dr. Bagash also praised the historical and outstanding relations between Yemen and Cuba, underlining the bilateral cooperation over many years and at all levels, whether in the sphere of health, education or politics. Likewise, he reiterated the importance of coordinating efforts and positions in international forums in such a way that the common interests of both countries are achieved.
The Undersecretary mentioned some of the important exchanges of visits between Yemeni and Cuban leaders, and recalled with pleasure his last stay in Havana in October 2018, when he was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and the Inter-Foreign Affairs session between Yemen and Cuba was held.
The Cuban diplomat expressed his country's commitment to support all efforts aimed at achieving peace, stability and security in Yemen, based on inter-Yemenite dialogue and negotiation, and even under the auspices of the United Nations Organization. Likewise, he ratified the willingness to maintain coordination and collaboration with the Arab nation in all possible spheres, for the progress and well-being of the Yemeni people.
