Cuba and Zimbabwe promote cooperation in medications control and registration

Harare, June 12, 2025 – The Cuban Ambassador, Her Excellency Ms. Susellys Pérez Mesa, visited the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) today, following up on bilateral actions following the recent visit to the Caribbean island by the Minister of Health, the Honorable Dr. Douglas Mombeshora. The Head of the Diplomatic Mission spoke with the Acting Director of MCAZ, Dr. Zivanai Makoni, about the possibilities for cooperation with the Cuban Center for the State Control of Medicines, Equipment, and Medical Devices (CECMED). The parties evaluated the potential for ties in areas such as registration, licensing, and information exchange to promote the advancement of joint health projects. During the meeting, the Ambassador and the Director of the Evaluations and Registration Division discussed the structure and functions of both entities. They also discussed the two countries' participation in international organizations related to the purposes of MCAZ and CECMED, as well as bilateral instruments and agreements between their respective countries and third parties. Perez Mesa was accompanied by the head of the Cuban Medical Brigade in that African nation, Dr. María Eugenia García Céspedes, while the Zimbabwean side was also represented by executives from the legal, registration, and inspection departments.
