Cuba Announces New Migratory Measures.

As part of the continuous and irreversible process of updating the country's migration policy, the Cuban government has decided to approve the following measures, which will take effect on January 1st , 2018:

1) Eliminate the "Enabling" of the passport of Cuban emigrants for travelling to Cuba

2) Authorize the entry and exit to Cuba of Cuban citizens residents abroad on recreational boats, through the International Tourist Marinas Hemingway and GaviotaVaradero. Once the conditions are created, it would be extended progressively to other marinas.

3) Allow the Cuban citizens who migrated illegally to enter Cuba, except those who did it through the Naval Base of the United States in Guantánamo.

4) Eliminate the requirement of accommodation (domiciliation)for the children of Cubans living abroad, who were born abroad, in order for them to obtain their Cuban citizenship and their identity document.

These decisions ensure he continuity of the measure adopted in January of 2013, as part of the forts in the country to strengthen the relationship between Cuba and its emigration, a process that was initiated in 1978 by Fidel Castro. Cuba´s government will continue to study further new measures in the process of updating its migratory policy.

The laws implementing these measures will be duly published in the Official Cuban Gazette. Information will also be available in the 189 offices of the Ministry if the Interior, and in the Office of attention to Immigration, at the web page ¨Nation and Emigration¨ http://www.nacionyemigracion.cu/ as well as the websites of embassies and consualtes.
