Geneva, June 23, 2025. Cuba assumed today the responsibility of Coordinating Country of the Group of 21 (G-21) in the Conference on Disarmament, which operates at this UN headquarters.
The G-21 is the largest of the four coordination groups that comprise the Conference on Disarmament. The G-21 is made up of 33 developing countries, out of the total of 65 Member States currently in the Conference.
This Group considers nuclear disarmament to be the highest priority in the field of disarmament, due to the grave danger that such weapons pose to the survival of humanity.
The Conference on Disarmament was founded in 1979 as a result of the first Special Session on Disarmament of the United Nations General Assembly, held in 1978.
It is the only multilateral forum in the international community mandated to negotiate legally binding agreements on disarmament and arms control.
Cuba will lead the Group until August 15.
