Cuba attended international meeting for Palestine in Riyadh

Riyadh, October 31st – The first High-Level Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, launched by the Kingdom on September 26th, 2024 coinciding with the High-Level Segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was held in the Saudi Arabian capital from October 30th to 31st, 2024.

At this significant meeting, inaugurated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Cuba was represented by its Ambassador to the Kingdom, Vladimir González Quesada.

In his speech to inaugurate the meeting, attended by representatives of 194 countries and regional and international organizations, the Saudi foreign minister described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as catastrophic and denounced the total blockade of the north of the Strip, stating that Saudi Arabia rejects the genocide that is taking place there with the aim of evicting the Palestinian people from their land.

Prince Faisal also demanded a firm stance by the international community to put an end to Israeli violations in Gaza and Lebanon, which undermine the chances of a Two-State solution and cause greater instability in the region.

The minister expressed the commitment of Saudi Arabia and its regional partners to achieve peace through practical measures and specific timetables aimed at ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state. He also ratified the Kingdom's support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) and its vital role in providing humanitarian assistance in the face of the serious challenges it faces in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Speaking at the meeting, the Cuban Ambassador ratified the Island's historic and unconditional commitment to the Palestinian cause in all its aspects, and therefore its supports the initiative of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

He recalled that Cuba has been an active member of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and currently holds its vice-presidency. Accordingly, it strongly condemns the war of extermination perpetrated by the Israeli armed forces over the Gaza Strip and also the recent aggression against Lebanon. (EmbaCuba Arabia Saudita)
