Cuba awarded eleven new scholarships to young people from Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Basseterre. August 7, 2025: At the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Basseterre, the ceremony for the granting of scholarships to eleven young people from this Federation took place on Wednesday afternoon. They will soon embark on a new path in their student life, on Cuban soil.
In the image of the creator of this wonderful program that has benefited so many young people in the world, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the patriotic symbols of Cuba and Saint Kitts and Nevis, the codes of ethics that will guide the conduct in their academic transit of 2 future doctors, 1 stomatologist, 2 engineers and 6 doctors of medicine who will specialize in several disciplines, were signed.
Ambassador David Rivero, when addressing the students, along with congratulations for this great opportunity, encouraged them to put all their effort into becoming the good professionals that their country expects, despite the challenges that they may encounter along the way. Beyond the complex economic situation that Cuba faces, the will of the socialist government prevails to continue helping all the sister peoples who, like Saint Kitts and Nevis, need it.
Hollis Prentice, president of the Cuban Alumni Association, shared his experiences as an Economics student in the Cuban city of Cienfuegos, while conveying the importance of the preparation they will acquire, which will not only make them good professionals, but also better human beings, with a more comprehensive training for life.
Dr. Daveen Wilkin, a specialist in Anesthesiology after two extended periods of studies in Cuba, and who currently serves as the chief medical staff at JNF General Hospital in St. Kitts, also spoke with the young people. She urged them to make the most of the gift they have received today. She shared several tips from his own experiences and urged them to focus on their most important task from now on, studying, studying, and studying.
Dr. Erick Browne, who graduated in Agricultural Engineering in Pinar del Río nearly two decades ago, did not want to miss the opportunity to publicly convey his love and gratitude for Cuba. He spoke to these young people from the heart, told them that they are privileged, encouraged them to learn from everything that Cuba offers them; of professional training, but also ethics; of commitment and responsibility and of sacrifice and reward.
It was an endearing meeting, without a doubt, a space in which each of those present came out more convinced of the future they desire for themselves.
