Nueva York, 16 de junio de 2023.- During special meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on addressing the urgent food security needs of Haiti, Ambassador Yuri Gala, Chargé d´Affaires a.i at the Cuban Permanent Mission, called to comply with the compromises of the Official Development Assitance to this Caribbean nation.
Durng his remarks, the Cuban diplomat referred that it is necessary to speak of the huge debt that the international community owes Haiti; of the collective responsibility with its definitive transformation.
Likewise, Gala López urged governments, international organizations and donors, without exception, to mobilize financial resources, transfer technologies and help build capacities, all of which must be done in the strictest respect for its sovereignty, the Haitian people, government and institutions.
Within these efforts, he highlighted the support of Cuba to the noble Haitian people and expressed that his country will continue to offer, unconditionally, its solidary support to Haiti, as it has done during the last 25 years.
Cuban collaboration with this sister nation is extended to the spheres of health, with more that six thousand collaborators since 1998, education, sports, agriculture, fisheries, construction, water resources and environment.
