New York, December 13th, 2023.- Ambassador Yuri Gala López, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, participated in the debate on norms, rules and principles of the sixth substantive session of the Open-Ended Working Group on the security and use of Information and Communications Technologies 2021-2025.
During his remarks, Ambassador Gala López warned about the urgent need to strengthen the regulatory framework to regulate matters in the field of security and use of information and communications technologies.
In that sense, he reaffirmed the “need to have a legally binding international instrument that comprehensively considers issues related to cybersecurity and the use of ICTs and regulates the responsible behavior of States in cyberspace.”
He also assured that the development and implementation of norms for the responsible behavior of States in cyberspace must be carried out on the basis of respect for the principles of sovereignty, sovereign equality, political independence and territorial integrity. “They should promote peaceful coexistence and international cooperation for mutual benefit and interest,” he emphasized.
