Cuba, the Caribbean and Africa, united by history

Kingston, 27 May 2025. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, participated in the Conference in celebration of Africa Day organised by the PJ Patterson Institute for the Africa-Caribbean Advocacy. The event, held at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, had as its central theme: From ‘us’ and “them” to ‘Ini’, reasoning on Pan-African liberation and reparation.

During his intervention, former Jamaican Prime Minister and great friend of Cuba PJ Patterson recalled the 50th anniversary of Operation Carlota, a military campaign led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, which was a milestone in the struggle for Angola's sovereignty and independence, the liberation of Namibia and the elimination of the apartheid regime in South Africa.
