Cuba celebrates a day in Dublin for Cuban culture and pays tribute to the beloved Prima Ballerina Assoluta, Alicia Alonso.

Dublin, October 18, 2019. As part of the celebration of the ISLA Festival of the Cervantes Institute in Dublin, a presentation was made of the Cuban dancers and teachers Irma Castillo and Ulises Mora, which became a Cuban party.

The occasion was propitious to pay posthumous tribute to Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, one of the most recognized dancers in the world, and responsible for training several generations of dancers during the Cuban Revolution.

The Cuban ambassador Hugo Rene Ramos Milanes, in his introductory words, highlighted the celebration of the Day of Cuban Culture and the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Ireland.

Ramos Milanes said that dance teachers Irma and Ulises have a dance academy in the city of Rome, where they have been teaching dance for 25 years and from which, they carry out an extensive work of dissemination of Cuban culture.

Also they are protagonists of the International Festival of Rumba "Timbalaye", which is celebrated every year in Cuba. Rumba was declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO last 2017.

Irma and Ulises were presenting various Cuban rhythms, among them Afro-Cuban dances, danzón, son, chachachá, mambo, rumba and conga, the public joined in a large choreography of several dozen people and became an emotional party.

Special thanks to "SIPTU" and "Cuba Support Group", who sponsored the trip to Dublin of these Cuban dance teachers.  The evening was also attended by a broad representation of the Cuban and Latino community residing in Ireland besides a representation of Irish good dancers, Irish friends and diplomats.
