Cuba celebrates Human Rights International Day

Cuba joins the international community on the celebration of the Human Rights International Day this December 10th, having the certainty that in this Caribbean nation, the full exercise of political rights and civil liberties, as well as economic, social and cultural rights, is guaranteed.

The triumph of the Revolution in 1959, led by the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, made possible that Cuban men and women could achieve significant advances in the enjoyment of the human rights.

During the years, Cuba has renewed relevant reports and accords related to human rights. Likewise, the country has actively cooperated with proposals and in the elaboration of strategies to guarantee human rights for all. More recently, Cuba was re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

As acknowledged by diverse United Nations organizations, Cuba shows outstanding results in the defense of human rights for its population. All these achieved despite the United States policy of blockade that continues to be a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of human rights of the Cuban people.

Furthermore, Cuba has also made an important contribution to the international community, in the spheres of health, education, culture, sports, among others. Peoples all over the world know firsthand the nobility of the principles that sustain the Cuban people. Many more have benefited from the selfless and permanent compromise of Cuba to guarantee human rights for all.

Cuba has worked and will continue to work for the promotion of peoples´ right to self-determination, the right to food, for the establishment of an equal and democratic international order, in the fight against racism and all forms of discrimination, for the realization of cultural rights and the respect to diversity. And, through this, it permanently ratifies the steadfast compromise of the Cuban nation with the promotion and respect of all human rights for all.
