This Tuesday, in the framework of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, took place the side event "Technology and Women's Empowerment: Global South Perspectives and Practice," co-sponsored by Cuba, China and other actors. Zonya Rivero Lopez, Second Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women, highlighted Cuba's progress in technology and women's empowerment.
In her speech, Rivero Lopez emphasized the importance of equal access to technology for women and girls. "It is essential that women not only benefit from technology, but also participate in the process from the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation stages," said the Cuban official.
She also outlined Cuba's achievements in technology and women's empowerment, such as the approval of the Digital Transformation Policy, the Cuban Digital Agenda and the Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which favor the participation of women and girls in technology.
She mentioned that, according to the UNESCO's Institute for Statistics, we have achieved gender parity in science.
Finally, she reiterated the importance of international cooperation to achieve the goals of sustainable development and called on the international community to continue supporting the just demands of the Cuban people for an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against the island.
