Paris, 22 of March. Cuba’s Ambassador to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel Moynelo, today condemned at UNESCO the crimes committed by Israel against the people of Palestine.
During the discussion of the draft decision submitted by the Arab Group "Impact of the current situation in the Gaza Strip/Palestine on all aspects of the mandate of UNESCO" on the Executive Council of UNESCO, the Ambassador of Cuba reiterated the condemnation of the bombing and Israeli incursion into the Al Shifa hospital, the largest health centre and medicine warehouse in Gaza, which constitute a violation of international humanitarian law, while demonstrating the total impunity with which Israel commits its crimes against the people of Palestine.
"We demand an immediate ceasefire and reject the killing of civilians and innocent people from all parties involved in this conflict, without differentiating ethnicity, nationality or religious faith," he said.
It also reaffirmed Cuba’s support for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the establishment of two States, enabling the exercise of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people and the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and also to guarantee the right of return of refugees.
The representative of Cuba to the multilateral body recalled that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East is an urgent necessity.
