Cuba denounced again at the UN the transgression of multilateralism and condemned the US aggression against Venezuela.

New York, January 14, 2026. – Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, addressed the General Assembly at the UNGA President’s Briefing on the priorities for the resumed 80th session, amid the proliferation of conflicts, the weakening of multilateralism and the serious threats to international peace and security which have prevailed in the current international context.

The Ambassador, in his speech, denounced the persistence of genocide against Palestine in Gaza and warned on the United States’ behavior, resulting in its withdrawal from many entities of the United Nations system, the military actions against sovereign states and the open promotion of hegemonic and dominance aspirations.

Cuba strongly condemned the United States’ military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, calling it a criminal act which also violated the International Law, the UN Charter and the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as Zone of Peace, while ratifying its unwavering support and solidarity with Venezuela’s people and government.

In this context, the Permanent representative highlighted the importance of preserving and strengthening the role of the United Nations, especially that of the General Assembly as its more representative body, based on the sovereign equality of the states and the respectful dialogue.

In this regard, Cuba advocated as urgent needs to eliminate the structural causes which stir up conflicts, reform the economic and financial order, curb Southern external debt, comply with the 2030 Agenda, ensure inclusive governance of artificial intelligence, guarantee equitable access to the scientific and technical development, prevent the politicization of human rights and eliminate blockades and coercive unilateral measures.

Finally, Ambassador Soberón Guzmán called to adopt a strong and renewed commitment with multilateralism and assured that, in those efforts, the international community can count on Cuba, for the benefit of the present and future generations.
