Geneva, 19 September 2025 — Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson strongly condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba, describing it as a massive, flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of the entire Cuban people.
The Cuban diplomat urged the Council to take note of the repeated calls by special procedures for an end to these unilateral coercive measures, which continue to be ignored by Washington.
In this context, he called on all UN member states to vote in favour of the resolution that will be presented on 28 and 29 October at the General Assembly, demanding an end to the blockade.
During his speech, Benítez Verson also condemned the genocide perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people and reiterated Cuba's solidarity with Venezuela in the face of escalating actions by the United States government to justify military aggression.
He urged the international community to preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
