Geneva, February 3, 2026 – Within the framework of the Plenary Session of the Conference on Disarmament, the Cuban delegation denounced the effects of the Executive Order issued by Donald Trump on January 29, which declares a purported national emergency in the United States and, under its provisions, would allow that government to impose commercial tariffs on imports of products from countries that supply oil to Cuba.
The representative of the largest of the Antilles underscored the extensive list of lies and defamatory accusations against Cuba that serve as the basis for this decision by the U.S. government. He also stressed that this Order constitutes a flagrant violation of International Law and further contravenes the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.
In his remarks, the Counselor of the Cuban Mission, José Ernesto Díaz Pérez, emphasized that no one is safe from the expansionist ambitions of the government of the United States. He likewise called on the international community, including the Conference on Disarmament, not to remain silent in the face of such grave acts that threaten international peace and security.
