New York, June 5, 2020.Cuba reiterated today its allegations of the repeated non-compliance of the United States Government with its obligations pursuant to the Agreement regarding the Headquarters of the United Nations. In an emergency virtual meeting, countries such as Cuba, Iran and Russia addressed issues such as the restriction of movement and the security and protection of diplomatic missions and agents.
The Deputy Permanent Representative and Chargé d' Affaires a.i. of Cuba to the world organization, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, denounced in this meeting, the serious terrorist attack with a firearm, perpetrated by a Cuban citizen residing in the United States, against the Cuban Embassy in Washington in the early morning hours of last April 30, with the intent to kill, according to his own statements. The Cuban diplomat underlined that this attack is the direct result of the aggressive and hateful policy and speech of the United States Government against Cuba and of the permanent incitement to violence by United States politicians and anti-Cuban extremist groups who have made this sort of attacks their means of living.
One month after the terrorist attack, the United States government remains silently complicit about the event, being incapable of making any public statement, the Cuban representative denounced. Such behavior by the Host Country, she added, could spur violent terrorist actions, not only against Cuba, but also against the diplomatic missions of other countries, both in Washington and in other cities.
Rodriguez Abascal recalled the long and bloody history of terrorism against Cuban diplomatic missions in the United States and their officials; and regretted that acts similar to those committed against the island's Missions in Washington and New York were repeated, since the complicit silence of the United States government is interpreted as an expression of impunity.
