New York, October 15, 2018. Cuba attended today the Interactive Dialogue with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Michelle Bachelet, within the framework of the Third Committee of the UN.
The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the Organization, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, spoke at the event to denounce the growing politicization in the treatment of human rights, particularly against countries of the South. This, she added, violates the principles of objectivity, non-selectivity and impartiality, which the United Nations wishes to include to the analysis of the concept.
Rodriguez Camejo, showed as the most recent example, the event against Cuba that the United States government intends to carry out this Tuesday, October 16, in the ECOSOC room, one of the main organs of the UN. She argued that said event, using the name and premises of the United Nations to attack one of its Member States, is a clear violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and International Law, and of the regulations of this Organization for the holding of meetings.
The event against Cuba, which is part of a defamatory campaign against the island, is also a new outrage to the sovereignty of the Cuban people and disrespect for their self-determination, which, the diplomat said, will face the strongest rejection and condemnation.
The Ambassador - who asked the Secretariat of the United Nations not to permit a manipulation aggression of human rights against one of its Member States - emphasized that the United States Government lacks any moral authority to judge Cuba, when its current administration, drives an agenda of supremacist, racist and xenophobic ideas.
