New York, June 27th, 2023.- Ambassador Yuri Gala López, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to United Nations, denounced, during meeting of the UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country, the arbitrary imposition of restrictions on the movement of Cuban diplomats accredited to this multilateral organization.
The Ambassador recalled that Cuban diplomats accredited to the United Nations continue to be subject to an extraordinary, arbitrary and singularly discriminatory restriction, with the imposition of limitations on movement which constitutes an obstacle to the proper performance of their duties. “This restriction of movement is illegal and totally contrary to International Law”, he highlighted.
Gala López reiterated that the Committee on Relations with the Host Country should recall the host country for the non-compliance of its compromises and obligations, to detriment of the Charter of the United Nations, the Headquarters Agreement, the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents, and other international instruments.
The Cuban representative appealed to ensure respect for the principle of the sovereign equality of States. “It is essential to guarantee the full participation of all members of the United Nations in the work of the Organization without discrimination”, he added.
