Cuba Elected Vice Chair of Palestine Committee

The meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) was held this Wednesday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, with the participation of the Secretary General, António Guterres.

The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, expressed his gratitude for the support and confidence for the election of our country as Vice-Chair of the CEIRPP.

He emphasized the need for a just and lasting solution to the conflict and the recognition of the independent Palestinian State within the pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem, guaranteeing the right of return of the refugees.

At the same time, he rejected Israel’s ban on the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip. He condemned Israel’s military operations in the West Bank, which he described as genocide against the Palestinian people.

Soberón Guzmán stressed Cuba’s commitment to continue defending the cause of the Palestinian people and assured that our country will continue to demand the immediate and unconditional admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.
