New York, 20 July 2022.“Cuba ratifies its unwavering willingness to continue contributing with all the resources at its disposal to the development of Africa and the success of its 2063 Agenda. It is our commitment to honor the ties of blood, culture and history that unite us”, stated today Ambassador Yuri Gala López, Chargé d´Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations.
In his statement, delivered at the High-Level Dialogue entitled "The Africa We Want: Reconfirming the Development of Africa as a Priority of the United Nations System", the Cuban diplomat called for the adoption of external debt relief mechanisms and mobilize resources for the continent by attracting foreign direct investment, ODA and other sources of external financing. All of this, he affirmed, in order to achieve inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, employment generation, and the eradication of poverty and hunger.
In addition, he pointed out that there is a long way to go to overcome the continent's underdevelopment resulting from centuries of exploitation of its natural and human resources; and called for broadening and strengthening the participation of developing countries, particularly African countries, in economic decision-making and rule-making processes, and contributing to their fuller and more beneficial integration into the world economy.
Gala López reaffirmed that the African continent will always be able to count on Cuba's solidarity. Cooperation between Africa and Cuba, in figures, shows the presence of more than 6,000 Cuban collaborators from different sectors in the continent and more than 30,000 Africans graduated from Cuban education.
Cuba is proud of the prestige it has achieved in Africa as a result of its selfless contribution to the struggles for independence and sovereignty of its sister African nations.
