Cuba: The highest priority of the General Assembly must be to achieve an end to the violence and massacre against the Palestinian people.

New York, December 20th, 2023.- Cuba reiterated, today, at the United Nations, that the highest priority of the General Assembly must be to achieve an end to the violence and massacre against the Palestinian people, an immediate ceasefire and the provision of urgent and sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza.

During his remarks, at the resumption of the tenth emergency special session of the UNGA, Ambassador Yuri Ariel Gala López, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Cuba, also stated that immediate action must be taken in the face of the inaction of the Security Council, paralyzed by the United States veto to protect the excesses of the Israeli government.

“History will not forget or forgive those who could have stopped the genocide and did not do so,” said the Cuban diplomat.

The Cuban Ambassador explained that the current situation is a consequence of 75 years of Israeli practices of illegal occupation and colonization, in flagrant violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people in their own territory; as well as the prolonged disrespect for the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law.

Gala López pointed out that Cuba rejects the death of civilians and innocent people from all parties involved in this conflict, without differentiating ethnicity, nationality or religious faith.

He demanded an end to the impunity that the United States guarantees to the government of Israel. He regretted that the northern nation has vetoed, in the United Nations Security Council, 47 resolutions related to the situation in the Middle East.

The Cuban representative condemned, in the strongest terms, the murders of civilians, especially children, women and humanitarian workers of the United Nations system; indiscriminate bombings, the destruction of homes, hospitals and civil infrastructure; as well as the deprivation of basic services to the Palestinian population.

Before concluding her intervention, Gala López reiterated Cuba's invariable solidarity with the Palestinian and Arab cause, and reaffirmed that her country will never be among those indifferent and will contribute in everything within its power to legitimate international efforts to put an end to the current situation.
