Vienna, June 14, 2020. Ambassador Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo highlighted the achievements of Cuban women in an event organized by the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and the Commission for the Prevention of Crime and Criminal Justice of the United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime, in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the celebration of the IV World Conference on Women and the approval of the Beijing Declaration and Plan of Action.
In her statement, the Ambassador stressed that, thanks to the educational and preventive work carried out by the State, the illegal consumption and trafficking of drugs is not a problem in Cuba. She highlighted the relevant role played by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in this preventive work. In this sense, she referred to the more than 10,000 differentiated activities carried out by the FMC with young people, to exchange information about the consequences for cultivation, trafficking, possession and consumption of drugs for health and the family.
She also highlighted the educational and orientation work carried out by the FMC in the current situation of isolation caused by COVID-19, as well as the high level of representation of Cuban women in the spheres of political and social life of the country.
