Cuba Highlights the Importance of Solidarity and Social Cohesion, in the framework of the 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development

This Tuesday, the Ministerial Forum on “Strengthening solidarity and social cohesion” was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, in the framework of the 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development, which takes place from 10 to 14 February.

Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the United Nations, Cristian Padilla González, while commending the choice of the topic related to solidarity and social cohesion, highlighted that these are a State policy and a will of the Government of the island.

He stated that, in the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, solidarity and equality are two essential pillars on which the socialist State of law and social justice rests. He also asserted that, in Cuba, all people are equal before the law, receive the same protection and treatment from the authorities and enjoy the same rights, freedoms and opportunities, without any discrimination.

Padilla González highlighted the work of the Cuban government to create the conditions that contribute to the social cohesion of its people, despite the daily challenges they face due to the maximum pressure policy imposed by the United States government. He explained that our country seeks to achieve a sustainable development that ensures the individual and collective prosperity of the people, contributes to obtaining higher levels of equity and social justice and guarantees the full dignity of all.

Likewise, he stressed that peoples and individuals are entitled to international solidarity. In this regard, he made reference to concrete examples of the solidarity that for over six decades Cuba has brought to the countries and people most in need. He thanked the multiple and constant tokens of solidarity that our country has received in the face of certain situations.

He also stated that Cuba is determined to continue promoting solidarity and social cohesion for the benefit of all, without leaving anyone behind, as a moral duty, an ethical must and a commitment to humanity.
