Cuba highlights progress in gender equality and labor rights at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women

This Monday, in the framework of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), Osmayda Hernández Beleño, member of the National Secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), participated in an interactive dialogue on "Inclusive Development, Shared Prosperity and Decent Work," where she highlighted Cuba's progress in guaranteeing labor rights and promoting social justice.

In her speech, Ms. Hernández Beleño emphasized that the Cuban Constitution recognizes work as a fundamental right and guarantees equal pay, labor protection, and access to decent employment. She also stressed that the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030 has human development, equity and social justice as its strategic axis.

The representative of Cuba referred to the implementation of the National Program for the Advancement of Women and the Decent Work Program, which promoted public policies for the empowerment of women and the elimination of discrimination in the workplace.

With regard to the National Program for the Advancement of Women, she said that it included the area of economic empowerment and promoted shared responsibility in care services. She also highlighted the Unpaid Work Project and the National System for the Integral Care of Life, which sought to achieve a fair distribution of work and recognition of its economic and social value.

She also highlighted the approval of the Action Protocol in Cases of Discrimination, Violence and Harassment in the Workplace, which strengthens the protection of women's labor rights.

"Under the principle of leaving no one behind, Cuba has ratified its commitment to continue promoting the inclusive development of society, with equity and social justice," the Cuban official concluded.
