Cuba invited to build consensus from Celac

Havana, January 10, 2020. The work plan presented by Mexico upon assuming the pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) intends to make this multilateral mechanism the most important in the region for its strengths in Support social programs.

The proposal, with 14 points, was presented at the forum by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, and is intended for an active participation of the 33 member countries of the continental body, as reported by the Mexican foreign secretariat on its website .

The Cuban President responded in a tweet: «Cuba is an active regional actor in the defense of Latin American and Caribbean integration», something also corroborated by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla who tweeted: «Cuba invites all the Celac member states to consolidate and build consensus, file harshness and restore mutual trust as a priority in 2020. Let's find paths that lead us to overcome differences and focus on what unites us ».

The deadline to comply with the program is the next 12 months and its purpose is to enhance the coincidences between the countries of the region, beyond their divergences, to project them at the international level.

Aerospace cooperation was the first and most complex of the 14 proposed points and marks the sending of a satellite to space in 2020. It then proposes to encourage epidemiological surveillance; the reduction of inequality and poverty; sustainable management of ocean resources; tourist actions in common; the creation of a methodology to certify disaster prevention teams; unity around the eradication of corruption and, finally, the beginning of a process of reflection on the governance of the mechanism.
