Cuba-Norway cooperation in the field of sport bears fruit

Oslo, February 8, 2023. On February 5, Cuban wrestler of Greco-Roman style Oscar Pino Hinds, 130 kg, won the gold medal at the first Ranking Series of Wrestling, that took place in Zagreb, Croatia.

The three-time world medalist won 7-1 in the title match against Oskar Marvik, an old acquaintance with whom Pino has shared several training sessions in Oslo. The Norwegian managed to score the only point against the Cuban athlete in the tournament.

In another oustanding performance, the Cuban Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion, Luis Alberto Orta Sánchez, obtained the bronze medal in the 67 kg, demonstrating that he had also taken advantage of the training sessions he shared in Norway last January with Pino Hinds, both under the guide of the renowned trainer Raúl Trujillo Díaz.

Days before, Orta and Pino had won the gold medal in their respective divisions at the Henry Deglane Grand Prix 2023 in Nice, France. Orta dominated Frenchman Tigran Galustyan (7-2) in the final. Pino, for his part, won in his division without receiving a single point against, winning the German Franz Richter (5-0) in the final.

The ambassador of Cuba to Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, sent messages of congratulations for the results in both competitions to Pino, Orta and Trujillo, and also to Marvik, taking into account that their excellent performances were marked by the cooperation between the Wrestling Federations of the two countries.
