The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, chaired the farewell to a group of Ghanaian students, among whom one hundred and seventy will be trained as new doctors, and thirty will study different postgraduate specialties. Among the latter, nine doctors trained in Cuba stand out.
They shared the Presidency of the activity the Director of the National Petroleum Corporation of Ghana (GNPC) Foundation, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah; the Director of the Americas Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms. Florence Akonor; the Coordinator in the Ministry of Health of the cooperation with Cuba, Dr. Hafez Adam Taher; the Head of the Cuban Medical Brigade, Dr. Ana Lubín García; and the Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Pedro Luis Despaigne González.
The Minister for Health, who highlighted how the selected ones are the result of the Bilateral Agreement signed between the homologous Ministries of both countries, urged them to take advantage of the possibilities offered by Cuba. Dr. Dominic, reiterated the commitment of his entity, the GNPC to support the entire training process of these professionals, while Dr. Adam Taher, who is graduate in Cuba, presented some of his experiences and recommended that they act respecting the laws and the disciplinary regulations of that country.
The Cuban Ambassador, after highlighting the work done by all the Embassy's staff to get all the documentation ready to be presented to the Cuban authorities, said that the group travels to Cuba in the year of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of relations and that they will be the relay of the more than two hundred new doctors, who will return to Ghana in the near future displaying their graduate degrees.
In the meeting, in addition to relatives of the students, were the staff of the Embassy of Cuba. The event was covered by various media outlets, including the daily Ghanaian Times and the TV broadcasters GH ONE TV and Atinka TV. These media interviewed the Ambassador of Cuba, and inquired about the meaning of the new students in the strengthening of bilateral relations.
